Free shipping, Easy returns, Lifetime warranty!

A place for morning meditation, beach lounging, apres-ski gear shuffling or stargazing. KĀMA is a non-traditional picnic blanket and a yoga mat. It is a post-surf changing zone, a campfire bench, a great spot for a nap. Grab your friends and you’ve got a dance floor.

What you see when you look at a KĀMA surface is the colorful shell of our Cordura blend. The highest standard of hardworking fabric, this outer layer will hold up to the folding, the scraping, and the dancing that time well-spent outside will do.

What you don’t see inside KĀMA is our patented surface that combines a layer of non-toxic, closed cell foam with a panel made of 100% post consumer milk jugs, pill bottles & cosmetic containers fabricated in the USA. With each mat, we keep over 160 plastic bottles out of landfills.

When will I have my KĀMA mat?

We are stoked that you are excited for your mat to arrive and are doing our very best to get them to your doorstep quickly! All orders placed through our website are packed and shipped within 1-4 business days (Monday through Friday, excluding holidays).
Once your order has left our hands, we will send you a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number (through Fedex or UPS).
Then let the fun begin! Do a little dance and give thanks to your delivery person.

Do you ship internationally?

We can! Unfortunately as a small company, international distribution is not the most economical option, but we will work with you to get Kāma to your far away destination! At checkout, choose the option for international shipping. We will then work with you to find the best carrier and rate. Depending upon the country, the charge may range from $50-200 USD per mat.

Can I return my mat for a full refund?

We hope that you LOVE your mat and can only refund you if the mat is in new condition (unwashed, no stains, no wear and tear) within 30 days of purchase. We are a tiny company, so we ask that you take responsibility for shipping the mat back to us. Shoot us an email at hello@kamasurface.co before you do so.
When sending back products, we recommend using UPS or another service provider which allows tracking >> we cannot not take any responsibility for lost packages.
Once received, please allow 1-2 weeks for your refund to be credited back to your original form of payment.
We are not responsible for any stains, marks, damages, or discoloration that occurs after the mat is used.

What does “kāma” mean?

The word was first translated to us as ‘the feeling of feelings’ •• a definition we feel is 1000% fitting for our origami surfaces. KĀMA is pronounced kaa•muh just like the Spanish word ‘cama’ meaning ‘bed’. We build our mats with love in Baja, California & get pretty excited when that post-surf siesta comes around. Further exploration of the word has turned up ‘pleasure experienced by the senses while in harmony with the mind and soul’.

Is there a top and bottom side on my Kāma surface?

Yes! The top side is cushioned for your comfort, and you will notice the small Kāma triangle when the top is facing up. The bottom side is rigid, which creates the stable, platform-effect of the surface. The top and bottom never touch each other when folded, so dirt and dust from the outdoors that gets on the bottom won’t touch the top.

Folded: 28” Length x 12” Width x 5” Height
Unfolded: 91” Diagonal Length, 84” Center Length, 50” Side Length, 1/2” Thickness
Dimensions may vary slightly as they are crafted by human hands. We do our best to ensure each mat is up to our standards before sending them out into the world.

Care Instructions

Bring your mat to a clean space. Gather a damp cloth and a simple cleaning spray. For a deeper cleaning, we recommend a sudsy sponge & a hose. Spot treat the area or entire mat until the mess is gone, then wipe clean with water. Always allow the mat to dry completely in indirect sunlight before putting it away to prevent any unwanted mold. Hanging your mat over a railing or fence works well. Store your mat in a cool, dry space.

Folding Instructions

Start at the short side of the mat. Grab the outside edges of the triangular panels closest to you. We like to think of them as butterfly wings. The faces of the triangles are going to come together as you push the outside points in.

The centers of the hexagons will tent up, and you can push forward to the next pair. There will be a great divide going down the center of the mat. Repeat the process until the entire mat is folded into a trapezoid.

If you get stuck, it is sometimes easier to start over with a flat mat. It’s helpful to think of the hexagons as two triangles and two diamonds. The triangles will form a valley and the diamonds will form a mountain when folded together.

We encourage you to practice folding and unfolding your Kāma a few times to understand the origami rhythm. It becomes simple and quick once you get the hang of it. If you’re really stumped, please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions about folding. We’d love to walk you through the steps on a video call.

The Carry Strap

All of our mats include an organic jute strap to help with transport. To use the strap, pull the loops out of either end, then slip them around the widest part of the folded up mat. Tighten the loops around the mat, then adjust the sizing by tying a simple knot in the top part of the strap. The straps are sized to accommodate extra items (blankets, water bottles etc.) that can fit beneath the loops as well.
