Jim Stout’s Gift Wish List
(Owner of Stout Tent)
If you’re like me, the best gifts are the ones you use outdoors. Camping, hiking, biking, taking the kids out or going solo – there are so many ways to enjoy the outdoors. I’ve put together a list of my favorite tools, tents, and gear to enjoy the outdoors all summer long.
A must have for all you Overland fans. The Deadman™ Earth Anchor™ (patent pending) is the world’s most versatile off-road recovery anchor, capable of anchoring to just about anything Mother Earth throws your way. Lightweight and easily stowed under your seat, it’s the self-recovery anchor that’s always with you, allowing you to explore with confidence!
2. Yeti Rambler 14oz Mug – $25
The Yeti Mugs are now essential when I go camping. I didn’t know it was possible to geek out over a mug, but they really are that good. The YETI Rambler® 14 oz. Mug is the toughest, most over-engineered camp mug out there. Unlike traditional camp mugs, this double-wall vacuum-insulated body protects hands from hot or cold contents while keeping coffee, chili, oatmeal – you name it – well-insulated.
3. Yeti 400 Lithium – $599
One of my best investments yet. Reliable for charging phones and laptops (work from tent), and nice to have around when the power goes out during those Vermont storms at home too. Designed for charging phones, tablets, cameras, and more, the Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium can also be used as an alternative to a gasoline-powered inverter generator, running small appliances, lights, even medical devices during short power outages.
Slim, secure, and hardy. The Ridge is a minimalist, RFID-blocking wallet. The main cardholder uses elastic to expand to hold up to 12 IDs and credit cards.
5. iKamper Roof Top Tent – $3,899
Definitely on the pricier side, but take a look at these features and you’ll understand why. Load the hard shell case right onto the top of your vehicle and head to your destination. Once you arrive, it’s literally just minutes to set up your tent. Sleeps up to 4 and can fit a king mattress.
Can you ever have enough leathermans? I love this one made in Portland, OR. At a mere five ounces, the Leatherman Skeletool has a stainless steel combo blade, pliers, bit driver, removable pocket clip and carabiner/bottle opener. The Skeletool is just what you need in one good lookin’ package.
A solid flashlight is an absolute staple of the outdoor world. I like this one. It has a CW LED with a maximum output of 1,150 lumens, a customized 3200mAh 18650 rechargeable lithium battery which is charged magnetically through the tailcap charging cable and a flat tailcap with a strong magnet allowing the ability to use as a hands-free work light.
Chances are you already have a phone mount, but if you don’t, or you bought a cheap Amazon version like I did the first time and need to upgrade, this one is well worth it. Ideal for vehicle windshields, it consists of a 3.3″ diameter RAM® Twist-Lock™ suction cup base, medium length double socket arm, and the popular spring-loaded RAM® X-Grip® large phone holder. The RAM® X-Grip® features an ‘X’ design that expands and contracts to provide a perfect fit for your device – even if it’s in a case. Made of powder-coated, marine-grade aluminum, stainless steel components, and high-strength composite, this large version of the RAM® X-Grip® fits phones ranging from 1.75″ to 4.5″ in width and keeps your device completely functional and accessible.
If you’re going for the full glamping experience (or you just really like a cold beer without melted ice everywhere), you need this fridge! Completely portable (powered by AC, DC, and solar), its robust design is built for tough outdoor use. Enjoy efficient cooling and freezing with convenience thanks to a mobile app which puts the control of your Dometic CFX3 at your fingertips. Go further, stay longer, and experience more.
Essential for off-roading and camping! Meet the DMOS Delta Shovel. A compact, portable feat of engineering from DMOS, the Delta Shovel is the E-Tool you wish you had in the military. Capable of being used as a full-sized shovel or collapsing down for work in limited space, as a hoe, or folding flat for storage, the Delta Shovel is your constant companion for any of the toughest jobs. Whether you’re freeing a stuck vehicle or digging a sniper hide, the Delta is always on hand and never in the way.
I got part number 814403, the ARB TOURING AWNING WITH LIGHT KIT- 2500MM X 2500MM. You can check out which is the best fit for you. This awning attaches neatly to most vehicles, self-standing and retractable awnings fit onto the side of most roof racks and roof bars, and are conveniently stored for immediate use on arrival. Specifically designed for harsh wilderness conditions, the awnings feature anodized height adjustable telescopic legs, Velcro Ties to secure roof, thick reinforced aluminum extrusions all secured and free from the outside elements in a heavy duty nylon reinforced PVC bag.
This list wouldn’t be complete without the Stout Tent Overland Sunforger Tent. We developed this tent a few years ago looking for the perfect solution to the intense Arizona sun beating down on the canvas. Made with the best canvas on the market, 10.10 oz./340gsm marine boat shrunk, double weave, army duck canvas, sourced in the USA, these jaw-droppingly beautiful tents are no longer only for Glamping. Hunters and Overlanders now have the answer to a true base camp tent. (Monthly payment option available)
